Soutomaior Castle celebrates the VI European Day of Historic Gardens

On 26 April, Soutomaior Castle joins the celebration of the VI European Day of Historic Gardens. On the occasion of this commemoration, several activities have been scheduled to promote the main elements of the garden, both digitally and on the castle grounds.

Guided tours for schoolchildren

The week before the celebration of the VI European Day of Historic Gardens the schools visiting Soutomaior Castle will learn about the value and the historical, social and natural importance of our garden. During the tour, specialised guides will emphasise the recognition of the European Route of Historic Gardens to promote our tree heritage and highlight the importance of its preservation.

This tour will be adapted to the different ages of schoolchildren so that they can understand and work on the subject.

Guided tours for the general public

Our guided tours, which are offered daily and led by a specialised guide, are the best way to delve into the history hidden behind the walls of Soutomaior Castle. This tour combines architecture, history and botany, lasts approximately 90 minutes and is intended for all types of public.

Open days

The Deputación de Pontevedra (Provincial Council of Pontevedra) opens the doors of the fortress to neighbours and visitors on 26 April, the VI European Day of Historic Gardens. Soutomaior Castle wants you to discover, in an enjoyable way, how a military building became a palace boasting a wonderful garden.

Over the centuries, the castle lands have had different purposes depending on the needs and preferences of its owners. They have been used as a grove, a woodland, a crop field and a garden. These open days aim to enhance the historical landscape of the fortress and its surroundings in an entertaining way through its museum.

Prior reservation is not required, but the capacity of the building will be respected.

Naturalist's notebook

On 26 April, the VI European Day of Historic Gardens, a copy of the didactic folder and its corresponding naturalist diploma will be given to all families visiting the castle and requesting it at the ticket office.
